Candice’s family is one of my favorite families to photograph.  So I was so glad when my friend asked me to photograph her maternity pictures.  Candice had been having pretty strong and regular contractions all week, so we weren’t even sure she would make it until the photoshoot.  Luckily for us, she made it and was radiant.  Even if she wasn’t feeling great – she didn’t show it.

We decided to go to Eaton Canyon in Pasadena/Altadena for their photoshoot.  I LOVE the lighting in these first two.  Candice just glows.

Their little girl, Stella is one of the cutest little toddlers.  Here she’s comparing her belly with her mama’s baby belly.  No there’s not a baby in there.  :)

Such a cute family.

Stella is the star of the show…. for now.  Until her little brother comes and she has to share the spotlight.

Great choice for the location.  There were so many pretty areas to photograph.

Sweet moment.

We wanted to get one shot with this just this pretty scarf on, so we looked for a secluded area.  Toward the end of the shoot we were still near the path, but we hadn’t seen anyone the whole time so we decided to do the shot here.  Of course, as soon as Candice got ready we had three big families walk right by!!  Candice was a good sport and they couldn’t see anything.  Plus I think it was worth it for this shot.  I love how the creamy flowers coordinate with the scarf.

Last shot of the day.  Beautiful sunset light.

I really need to meet some more of my photography colleagues in the area.  So when Brian met Sarah, with Bright Waters Photography, I was anxious to meet her too.  Through our conversations, we realized we have sons about the same age and we are both expecting.  Sarah is due late July and I am due early August, so we arranged to do a photo swap for a family/maternity shoot before the babies come.  Brian and I did our photo shoot at the farmer’s market in Pasadena.  Check out the preview of our session on Sarah’s blog HERE.

So Sarah and I brainstormed locations for her shoot, and we ended up settling on her beautiful home.  I love shooting at clients’ homes because they are generally more comfortable and relaxed and it shows their personality.  Here is a sneak preview for you, Sarah:

Isn’t their son, Caiah, soooo cute?

And so are his parents: Sarah and Tim.

Sarah is one of those pregnant women that glows.  She is radiant and has so much energy.  How does she do it?

Sarah and Tim were so playful and loving.  I didn’t have to give them any direction on what to do.

I love these family ones on mom and dad’s bed.

After our photos at Sarah and Tim’s home, we headed to a nearby park for a few outdoors shots.  This bridge was so cool.  I just had to avoid showing the graffiti sections.

When Jenna initially emailed me to ask about my rates and availability for a maternity shoot, I knew we would get along right away.  Here is an excerpt from her email:

“I LOVE your photos, so lovely AND natural (so many pregnancy photos look crazy posed with soft focus gauzy silliness, you know?).”

She made me laugh so hard, I couldn’t wait to meet her and her family.  They were such a fun family to shoot because they really wanted to capture this special time in their lives and their family interactions without being posed, which wouldn’t have worked very well for her 3 year old daughter Zoe, as you will see below.  ;)

Here is the lovely Jenna.  I’m so glad she wanted to celebrate this pregnancy with a photo shoot.

And here is the adorable Zoe.  I love her expressionate and pure personality in the photos.

It was good that Jenna and Wyatt are so laid back, because apparantly Zoe did not take her usual nap and was, as Jenna put it: “crazy with toddler non-napping spazzitude.”  Zoe wasn’t feeling this shot.  :)

So we headed to their front yard to get a few shots commemorating the sale of their house.  They are moving to Virginia this summer and will miss their first home.  I love Zoe’s expression!

Jenna and Wyatt sat on the lawn and let Zoe get out some of her energy.

While Zoe was busy running around, I wanted to get a few shots of just mom and dad.  But as you can see in the background, Zoe didn’t like being excluded.

So she jumped in the middle, where she wanted to be.  Hopefully she gets used to sharing the spotlight when her little sister comes.

We decided to head indoors for some family shots.

And finally one last portrait of Jenna.  I love this one – Jenna looks stunning and so radiant with her pregnancy.
