One Month to go…
As of today, I am one month from seeing my new baby girl! Our C-section is scheduled for August 1st, and I am glad I can start counting down in weeks rather than months. This pregnancy has gone great – no complications so far, though I am getting very tired and uncomfortable. I am definitely ready to meet this baby girl. It couldn’t be better timing either, because I just finished her nursery, so I am ready any time she wants to come… (hint hint)
I reupholstered, sewed, crafted, and made most things in her room, so I am pretty proud of it. Here is a view of one side of her room:
And here is the other side, where her crib is:
I love so many of the details on this purple accent wall. One of my good friends helped me paint the tree, using this tree as our inspiration. I love the A+B on the trunk, the yellow love birds, and the leaves blowing off the tree!
One of my favorite details of her whole room is this birdhouse nightlight. I painted it, and my husband added the nightlight and heart silhouette on the roof. I got the inspiration from this post on Babble.
Butterflies are special to me and my husband because he proposed to me in a butterfly reserve with monarchs flying all around us. We also used butterflies as a part of our wedding theme, so I just had to find a spot in the nursery to feature butterflies. When I saw this tutorial to make a butterfly mobile, it was just what I was looking for.
I made a lot of the upholstery items for the nursery, so I had a lot of fabrics left over. I used this quilt from The Land of Nod as inspiration for this quilt pattern. It is crib size for her to use when she is older.
The bird sheet is also from The Land of Nod, but I did make the bumpers and the pillows from my fabric stash.
Here is a closer look at my nursing corner. I made the curtains with this really pretty linen fabric from Joanne’s. I found the lamp and table at an antique shop, and I recovered a cheap Ikea ottoman with this custom purple fabric.
The yellow chair is a really cool story. We found a set of really really ugly green wingback chairs by our garbage bin when we were first married. I made my husband rescue them and have been storing them ever since. I really wanted to use one of them in the nursery, but the old fabric had to go. I called around to upholstery places, but it was just out of our budget. So after looking up a couple of reupholstery tutorials online, I convinced my husband that we could tackle it ourselves. We really didn’t know what we were in for! There is a reason upholstery is not cheap! It took us a whole 3 day weekend to dismantle it and recover the chair, and another day for me to sew the cushion. I love it though! I am just glad we tackled the project in my second trimester when I had a lot of energy!
I love love love owls and birds, so I took an evening and made this owl pillow and this bird pillow. So cute!
I saw this pretty chevron blanket on Etsy a long time ago and just fell in love with it. Unfortunately, it was a little too expensive for our budget, so I decided to learn how to crochet to make one of my own. I am pretty proud of how it came out considering it was my first ever crochet project.
I always said that if I had a little girl I wanted a chandelier for her room. But I found out that most chandeliers are expensive! Too pricey for a baby’s room. Luckily, I happened to find this one at Ikea, which was under $50. Nice! And as a bonus, it’s the perfect size for her small room.
And here is the other corner of her room, with her dresser and toddler chair.
I had an old lamp that didn’t really match the room, so I recovered it with the same fabric as the chair. it’s not a perfect job, but it works. The little bird house was from my mom – she used to collect bird houses when I was growing up.
On the other side of the dresser is this beautiful mother/baby statue my mom gave me. Behind that, I recovered an oatmeal container for her hairbands and clips. And on the other side is this cool birdhouse with these little felt birds I made for Easter a few years ago.
Several years ago, I pinned this pretty bird artwork, meaning to make it for my master bedroom. I never got around to it, but when I started decorating the nursery, it seemed to fit perfectly. My husband made the frame and I covered it with some old sheet music. Then I painted the branches and birds over it.
The dresser itself was a garage sale find that we repainted black. I wanted it to pop a little more, so I recovered the drawers with scrapbook paper. I’m still not sure if I like quite how bright it turned out, but at least it is unique!
Next to the dresser is the little toddler chair. It used to have zoo animals on it from the boys’ nursery, so I made a new slip cover to match the nursery.
I told you I liked owls! Here is another owl pillow that I saw on this blog. The pillows are some of my favorite details. :)
And lastly, by her closet I made this hair bow holder from a frame I found at an antique store. I painted it yellow and distressed it, and then added chicken wire to the back. Sometimes it pays to have chickens (literally, we have 12 in our backyard!).
Can you tell I am excited for this baby girl to come? I keep telling my husband that if the doctor is wrong and it’s a boy, he better like purple for his nursery!! Now you know why I have been MIA from my blog for the past few months. I have several weddings and family sessions to share, but it just might have to wait until I am on maternity leave. Hopefully I will have time to write blog posts then…
