Newport Beach Engagement Photography – Part 2

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Here is part two for my Newport Beach afternoon, and the last one I’ll post today.

Later that same afternoon, I met Britta and Alan at the Balboa Fun park for their engagement session.  They ran into a traffic accident on the way, so we had to be quick with the daylight that was left.

I love that they wanted to ride in the Ferris Wheel.  I think it helps show their playful personalities.

Then we went for a walk along the different piers.

After a quick outfit change, we headed to the Balboa Pier for a few last ones as the sun went down.

Newport Beach Engagement Photography – Part 1

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

So this is part 1 of two sessions at Newport Beach.  One afternoon last summer, I was able to meet two different couples at Newport for engagement shoots.  Newport and Balboa are definitely fun and interesting places to take engagement pictures.

First, I would love to share with you Tim and Tamera’s engagement session.  My cousin, Tim, was engaged to beautiful Tamera, and they were here for a few days from Utah for a family reunion.  While they were here, they asked if I could take their engagement pictures.  I am so glad we were able to find a time because it was so fun to hang out with you two for the afternoon.

We started along the boardwalk.

And then we headed over to the Balboa Park fun zone to grab some ice cream.

They used this one for their engagement photo, and I’m so glad they did.  It’s one of my favorites!

Then we went down to the Balboa Pier for a few last pictures.

Disneyland Anaheim – Senior Graduation Photography

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

It was a fun surprise to get a call from Sarah and her mom from Arizona.  They love Disneyland so much that Sarah wanted her graduation pictures there.  Specifically, the castle is Sarah’s special place.

Honestly, I was a little nervous for the session because Disneyland is not the easiest place to take pictures.  There are TONS of people and the lighting is pretty harsh and direct, especially right in front of the castle.  Not exactly ideal for taking gorgeous senior portraits.  But Sarah was game for whatever I suggested, so we met first thing in the morning for best lighting.   Often we had to wait and wait and wait some more for breaks in the crowds.  And I’m happy to say that I am ecstatic on how the pictures came out!

First thing we went right in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.  This is a hard spot because soooooo many people take pictures there.  I really wanted her photos to stand out and feel different.  Hopefully we achieved that.

Next, we went to the wishing well, which is a nice spot for some great lighting.  It’s one of my favorite areas.  Though it too had a lot of visitors.  We did a lot of waiting.  And waiting.

I love that Sarah was such a good model.  She was willing to try different poses and different expressions.  I love her interpretation of these two mirrored Sleeping Beauty paintings inside the castle drawbridge.

Sarah is a talented ballerina, so I asked her to show me a typical ballet pose.  I love this.  I only wish there weren’t a lot of people in the background.

So in the next shot, I just decided to use all the people around us..  Sarah is so beautiful that she stands out from the crowd.

I loved the lighting here in the tunnel.

And of course a few on Disneyland’s Main Street on our way out.

Thanks, Sarah for being such a wonderful model – you are simply beautiful!

Santa Monica Pier and Beach – Maternity Photography

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Last summer, I had the opportunity to meet Ros-Ana, Leo and Camilla at the Santa Monica Pier to take Ros-Ana’s maternity photos and some images of their family of 3 before the baby came.  Both Ros-Ana and Leo are from Venezuela and grew up close to the beach, so it was a special for them to have their pictures done at the beach.  I always love it when clients pick locations that are special and meaningful to them.

First, we played a little bit on the swings, so Camilla could get some energy out.

Camilla was so excited for the new baby to come.

Then we headed to the pier for some more.

Camilla was definitely a firecracker and total ball of energy.  I love it!

I love this mural on the Santa Monica Pier, but we had to take it quick because the security guards came and asked us to leave.  Oops!

So we headed to the lifeguard stand for a few.

And then under the pier.

Then we headed to Venice to take a few with their graffiti walls.

Yorba Linda Regional Park – Family Photography

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Well, again it’s been way too long, so I thought I would post some more catch up sessions (I seriously don’t know when I’ll ever really be caught up).  But these sweet families deserve their story told, even if it takes me a while.

I was honored to be asked to photograph Mary Ann and Dan for their 50th wedding anniversary.  First, we took some pictures of them alone and then some traditional groupings of their children and grandchildren.

I loved seeing their wedding album.  I think everyone should have an album of their wedding.  It is definitely a beautiful keepsake for many many years to come.

Afterward, we took some pictures of each family.  I was happy to take pictures of Matt, Christine and Emerson again, since we had so much fun at their last session a few months ago.  As always, it was a blast photographing this energetic toddler and family.

Next I had a few minutes to take pictures of Melissa, James and their new baby girl, Avery.

Avery was a sweetheart and was so smiley and giggly.
